The Tigh-Na-Mara Toy Drive is instrumental in helping SOS fill the Toy Shop so that low income residents are able to provide gifts to their children at Christmas. This year the Toy Drive will take place on Nov. 30 from 6:30 am to 10 am at Tigh-Na-Mara. Residents can bring a new, unwrapped gift, gift card or monetary donation and receive a free breakfast.

Last year (2015) 1,536 gifts were collected at the Breakfast, $3,815 in gift cards and $6,373 in cash and cheques.

The SOS Caring for Kids at Christmas program has been providing gifts to children and food to adults for 47 years in this community. Low income parents and grandparents can come shop for free in the Toy Shop, and they also receive grocery store gift cards so they may choose food that is meaningful to them over the holidays. Adults without children can also receive grocery store gift cards, and the Stocking program, coordinated by the local Newcomers’ Clubs, delivers stockings to Seniors who are shut in.
